We say a lot, and yet our words say nothing at all. We pass by each other with a grunt, then a nod and we’re off to work. Time has revealed the truth about us. Conversations are a thing of the past and days of silence seems like an eternity in a dark room. You face only lights up from looking at your phone now, and your smiles are the results of notifications from your friends.
When my nose itched, you no longer sneeze, when my face tingled, you didn’t scratch yours. We feel many things but can’t share them with the one sitting next to us. Love, it somehow got lost on its way; I look forward to those long days at the office and coming home is the saddest part of my day.
We don’t finish each other sentences anymore, we go to our separate corners of the house, and stay. We have companions and yet are lonely, we have a significant other and are still living like we are single.
Once there was we, now there is you and I, me and you. Social media has nearly replaced human contact, interaction, and conversation with likes, emojis and blank faces void of emotion. We reach out, only to draw back, we speak our minds just to be labeled and punished for our thoughts, so we sit in silence.
What are you thinking? Let’s talk, have a conversation about us. There are plans to be made, our life to be lived and filled with excitement and adventure. Do you know me and from where I came? Do you remember my story, my struggle, and my triumph! It’s ok now, I am no longer sleeping. I have embraced the sunlight on my face, I can see clearly now.
As the day comes to an end and, we are all alone, can you hear me when I’m quiet? It doesn’t matter; what you didn’t hear was the sound of me leaving your world of you.
