When God Selects Politicians
Since when did God, get into the business of calling or leading someone to running for public a office? Don’t get me wrong, I truly believe that God can and will do as He desires, His thoughts and ways are far above anything I could imagine. The church is definitely in need of GOOD and Godly leadership. I’ve often heard people qualify their actions with the statement…’God lead me to…’ Or ‘God told me to…’. I guess with anything else, if God has an end result, I don’t think He would let us know what it is or perhaps He wont tell you about all the dark secrets that will be revealed as you run for office.
One thing for certain, when the competition is really tough and you really want to have an edge over your opponent, its nice to have some dirt to sling or something to case a shadow of doubt on your opponents morality. I would think, if God were to select a man or a woman to run for a political office, I seriously doubt His candidate would have a clean past with an impeccably, spotless record. This is not to excuse the past of someone, but if any man or women be in Christ, they are indeed a new creature. Although that sound like I’m being dismissive of someones past, God doesn’t hold us to what we use to do, but if what you are currently doing is not reflective of your faith in Christ, than by all means that candidate is not walking in the Light of Christ.
There was a famous comedian from long ago, who coined the phrase….’The Devil Made Me Do It”. Fast forward to this century we now say…”God Called Me To It!’. It seems that God is at fault for all of these preachers who Build Mega Churches, amass thousands of followers and do ministry that seemingly touches the lives of many…only to fall from grace for sexual misconduct, adultery, embezzlement and a host of other…lapses in judgement.
The selective process for the next Bishop or ranking church official is more political than it is God inspired. The smell and taste of power and position in the church seems to bring out the worst in those calling themselves “‘called by God”. The membership is not innocent in these matters…we (the members) heap to ourselves leaders, our favorite teachers, preachers, superintendents and Bishops. It seems the criterion for a good leader or pastor is one who can split a verb so precisely and exegesis a text with such passion, that even the most spiritually dead of believers will shout AMEN and go into a Holy Ghost dance. Those whom we like we shout a hardy AMEN when they preach, and those we don’t favor…we kill them with silence during the church service.
When God selects a politician, I can not say, what will or wont happen during the campaign, but I would imagine, you wont have the embarrassments many candidates are having during a campaign, with things from your dark past creeping up to haunt you. God’s name and reputation is at stake here.
