What would you do?

I started watching a weekly TV show and this show really captures my interest and that of many other viewers.  What would you do?; Is a show takes a close look at what people would do under certain circumstances; their reactions and behavior are caught on tape using hidden cameras.  For instance, the host of the show will stage a situation that will test people watching or witnessing an event in which requires action on part of the one witnessing it.  Passers by, bystanders  are observed; Will you speak up? Will you report something? Will you walk away and pretend nothing happened? These are some of the few questions being asked and demonstrated in this show. It really tests the humanity and decency of people.  Although it is a show and the events are staged, the reactions and actions of the people (bystanders and witnesses) are very real.

The actions and behaviors of people under different sets of circumstances is something amazing to watch in the show. My wife shared her collective experiences with me about her commute to work during the past month. The main thing that stood out to her were the faces of the commuters. The expressions on many faces were expressions of worry, deep concerns and ever fear and apprehension.  Passengers sitting across from each other do not make eye contact and it was almost like eye contact was purposely avoided among people.

Many passengers were loaded with bags and luggage to carry belongings they would need for their commute, others would simply ride the train all day long with no place to go. Single moms would carry the burden of many bags for their children along with the stroller for the baby.  As I drive to work, I cant help but notice while stopped at the traffic light, the faces of people in my rear view mirror. Some motorist are reading their news paper, applying makeup or holding their cellphone to their head (I guess they don’t know about wireless).  Many are consumed with worries of the day (before they get to work)  and life in general.  Some motorist appear angry and their driving is aggressive; pedestrians take unnecessary risks to cross the streets trying to avoiding the aggressive motorist while they seemingly dare someone to hit them.

While it is popular and a cute phrase among Christians to ask “What Would Jesus Do”  maybe we as believers ( everywhere ) need to start asking “What Would You Do?”  “What shall we do?”  Or “What Can I Do?  We really should stop waiting for God to the things were are totally capable of doing.  I believer God will only do , what we are powerless to do our selves.  Why should God feed hungry people when their are plenty of Churches and Holy Ghost filled people that are so willing to do ministryGod uses people, but it seems that people try to use God.

What would you do?

Its not that He is unwilling, its us.  We pray for people that are hungry, instead of feeding them. We wag your heads at the man or woman sneaking pass the gates in the subway and we look the other way at the many thing we can do something about everyday.  Among all the people we pass during the course of the day, someone attends somebodies church…somewhere, wouldn’t you think? In the mean time we hide behind our tinted windows, busy life styles and clergy collars waiting for God to do something about what we see.

The next time you see that someone could use a kind word or your help, do something.  Go beyond praying and exercise that faith you have in God and do something.

And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. (Luke 6:31)
