Unconditional love on the condition of…
We hear the word unconditional used in many ways and one of the most common I believe is when it is used in the church when talking about the unconditional love of God toward people. The other method the word unconditional is used is in the conversation of christian people when talking about the unconditional love of the husband towards the wife.
Love with out conditions sounds nice and we are so ready to embrace such love coming from the cross (as Christ died for the sins of man) but when it comes to showing this type of love towards each other, its on the condition of. In the marriage vows, we promise each other in the site of God (or the justice of the peace) what we will do and how we will love, honor and forsake all others and so on. On the conditions that…and in comes the fine print. The following conditions apply. Is their a condition to salvation? Yes, Only believe. I cant help but to think, what if God changed His mind based on the fact that we keep breaking our vows to Him. So often you hear believers say, “I Thank God, that I am saved, sanctified and filled with His precious Holy Ghost” and with the same tongue we curse, slander or gossip about our brothers and sisters in Christ because of something we do not like or understand about them.
Some churches will love you as long as your tithe and follow their traditions. Looking at conversations on a social network site, you can see what those professing Christ are saying about each other. Wow, the world is watching and reading, is it any wonder that our churches are half empty and those remaining, find it a struggle and sometimes discouraging because there is no growth in the body of Christ (in their church).
Who wants conditions place on love? While we were yet in our sin, Christ died for the ungodly, and there was no conditions placed on His love. How then can we as believers place conditions on people to receive the love of God? Conditions such as:
- Before we give any assistance, you must hear a 30 minute presentation.
- If you want God to bless you , you must give to His work.
Who are we to place conditions on the blessings of God? The blessings of God are not for us to control or collect an offering to get them. As ministers of the Gospel, it is impossible for us to love one another unconditionally unless we are indwelt by the spirit of God. As believers or church members, our love should not not be according to height, weight, race, gender or likability; these things should be unheard of in the Churches of God in Christ Jesus.
We are proud to show our love for one another on certain holidays, but when the holiday is over,we return back to the normality of conditional love and standing in the prayer line week after week asking God for His forgiveness, when we are impatient and unloving towards others, these things ought not be.
