I like what Paul says in 1 Corinthians 2:14. In the noted passage of scripture as he stated how the natural man does not receive the things of God. I have in many of Sunday school classes thought of this passage whenever I would have a student that simply did not receive what was being taught. Its one thing to not understand a passage of scripture and its another to totally reject, that which is thoroughly explained. Many in the church claiming to be Christians have this same problem. The natural man is referring to the person outside of Jesus Christ. Many believers will and do reject teachings of local fellowships although clearly supported by Gods word. Rather than study to validate or disprove something they rely on their intellect and no biblical references or teaching to support their stand.
Rather than take the stand; ” I could be mistaken”, they will take the stand they are correct and will offer no proof (Gods word, a study, a document, a thesis) of what they believe what they believe. When Gods Word becomes or already is foolishness to you or your friends and you can not discern (understand) what is written, a trip back to the foot of the cross might be in order.
If you disagree with a teaching or practice, let the word of God be your authoritative source and guide, not the commentary, not the TV evangelicals and not a pastor. Now, if your are a student of the bible and what your Pastor or fellowship leader teachers or communicates, constantly matches what is written in Gods Word, then he or she would be trustworthy when it comes to imparting truth. 2 Timothy 3:16
