Imagine getting up early on a Sunday morning, getting the family ready and driving out to the Sunday morning worship service and seeing: “Sorry we are closed”. I realize the economy is in the tank, but I never thought I would her on the news that churches are closing because they are feeling the financial pinch like other businesses.
Many say “well…the church is a business also”. When Jesus Christ arrived, bleed and died, I don’t recall Him applying for a business license to start a church. I know pastors whom started a fellowship and did not need a business license. I realize one should run a church like a business, but the profit is souls (for the Kingdom of God) not “dollars and cents”. Read more on Sorry…Church is closed….

Sometimes its hard to separate the two, doctrine and tradition. Its hard to separate them when you supplement your alone time with God, and being in His word with the constant barrage of activities in the church, the teaching and the preaching without performing an Acts 17:11.
When you allow yourself to be entertained or if you are caught up in the display of great oratory skill in the church service, you might be missing what is vital and important. How will you know whats is tradition, doctrine and what is truth if you are hypnotized by the mantra, “let the church say amen” and you don’t understand the text, the theme, the inspirational or the application?
Busy trying to get your praise on? If you just get your praise on, on Sundays, your missing something. If you cant wait until Sunday to meet God in the church, your really missing something. He’s not in the church building, He’s in you! Read more on The traditions of men….

Wow, just imaging that. You can live like you want, intimidate other church members, have an abrasive disposition and still say, “I’m going to heaven any how”! There are many slick words and religious jargon used by church members. Holiness doesn’t start at the beginning of church service and end at the benediction. There is much shaking and tongue speaking in the *OCIG but when the closing prayer is given, the real person shows up outside the front door.
Why does Going Against The Grain write about the thing we like to sweep under the religious rug and look the other way when we leave the place of fellowship? Many churches and members are in denial. Why cant we (the church) see that something is wrong? The world knows it and the new babes in Christ know it. We can quote a great number of fancy cliches (some with no spiritual truth or meaning), gossip (on twitter and face book) about each other, and go to church on Sunday and speak in tongues and we wonder why the church still has 50 members.
Going Against The Grain
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)

I can recall this mantra while I was a member of a local church. As I recall these words in my head, I can only wonder what happened! To what you may ask? The power and the influence the church use to have in our communities and in the lives of the members that attended the weekly services so “religiously”.
