The word love is used so much in our society that I often wonders if people really understand the word or the actions that should follow the meaning; not that I am an expert or an authority on the subject.
Our modern dictionaries define love as:
1. A profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person.
2. A feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for a parent, child, or friend.
3. Sexual passion or desire.
4. Affectionate concern for the well-being of others: the love of one’s neighbor. Read more on Love is what it does….

August marks a new month for “Going Against The Grain”. The first article was written back in 2005 and was birthed out the desire to write the thoughts and contents of my heart, much of the content is from my experience in the Church (C.O.G.I.C) and my Christian walk.
I can remember many days when I had a question during a Bible study and I always had the suspicion that there was something missing from the answers that were given. The more I would research, the more I realized there was something shaded in the responses of the teachers and I could see on the face of students, their reluctance to ask more questions.
I wouldn’t share with many of the believers that I worshiped with that I wrote a blog, back in 2005, when I started writing, the notion and concept of a website was still new in the mind of some believers. Since what I wrote about opposed the views of the status quo, I only shared with those who were secure and strong in their faith. Read more on From one Epoch to the next….

“If every Christian were just like me, what kind of Church would this be?” Remember that mantra from Sunday school or sometimes during the morning service? Often times we feel comfortable around people that think like us or even have the same thoughts, likes and dislikes we have.
Familiar surroundings allow us to relax in the atmosphere we find ourselves in and we can share thoughts, insights and feelings with those around us (sounds a lot like fellowship). Being surrounded by like people with like passions or beliefs sounds like the type of place I would want to worship corporately, but adopting the thought presented earlier; “If every Christian were just like me, what kind of Church would this be?” would cause me to answer with the following words, “Sometimes encouraged, sometimes discouraged, sometimes happy, many times sad, sometimes up and sometimes down” I guess messed up would sum it all up!” Before you think, “wow, this writer is really hard on himself”, let me elaborate.
We all have problems, issues, setbacks, trial and shortcomings, if ever saint were just like me, whom could I turn to for strength and encouragement? If every saint were just like me, there would be no diversity in the church, or in the ministry, there would be one gift in the body.
I thank God for the diversity among the saints; some have overcome obstacles and am strengthened while others have yet to overcome. The strong are to bear the infirmity of the weak, when I can’t pray for myself, it is true the spirit of God makes intercession for us with groaning that cannot be uttered, but oh how encouraging when a brother or sister in Christ says to you, you’ve been on my mind and I’m praying for you”. If I was strong and every saint was just like me, seldom would I need to look to God or my brother in Christ because I’m all right (all by myself). I am glad that everyone is not like me, there is always someone stronger that me, that I can got and learn something from.
Be who you are in Christ and let God mold you into the person that He desires you to be; someone else is waiting on that Gift that God had placed in you, so they may be strengthened and encouraged.
