How can the church (the people) belong to the pastor and The people (the church) belong to God also? Can you really have it both ways? Remember the question and the title, it will come up again.
While reading an article from a national churches web site (The Mother Boards Forum), there were many things written that had me scratching my head. Tradition can be beneficial in teaching how things were done or maybe how things should be done. Tradition can also be a dangerous thing in the life of a believer and in the church, for instance; when times and methods change, tradition will keep you out dated and out of touch with the reality that things have really changed. Many people in the church will listen to the things said by the leadership, if they have questions, they won’t ask, they just follow. I don’t understand how this equates to obedience when you do something that your gut tells you is questionable.
This is what I mean, in the forum about church mothers (reference is below), it states that and I quote: “She (the church mother) is to a pastor in the local church what a wife is to her husband at home.” WHAT! Should not the person writing this article add more clarity?
No, my mind is not in the gutter, anyone having been in the church for some time will realize their are some traditions that simply will not fly in this day and time. If I travel to another church for an engagement, my wife is coming along as my companion and my help. I know the writer did not mean this literally, but figuratively is not good either. I realize that the wife is a “helpmate” to her husband (also her pastor) at home, but she is more things than a helpmate to her husband (if the marriage is to last). Why can’t the wife of the Pastor help him in the church if she is truly his helpmate?
come back for the conclusion of this post
Find out what is wrong with this statement: Its the pastors church, but the Lords people.

You might hear the word amen at any time in a worship service. Sometimes you will hear the same word at work when someone is saying something with passion that makes sense and is the truth. You will always get the cold stare or strange looks from church members when something is said that makes no sense and if it makes no sense more than likely you disagree and there will be silence among the congregation.
The extreme of this is, when the congregation does not like the speaker, they will kill the preachers enthusiasm and confidence by remaining silent, thus signifying they do not support nor do they agree with this person. Read more on Let the church say amen….

In part one of this post we talked about the importance of clarity in what we say. Too much is taken for granted in the church and believers (many of them) are too quick to respond with AMEN to what was said, without understanding what was said or the implications of agreeing. Too often we allow traditions from long ago to dictate present day behavior and many of these traditions are accepted as a standard or a requirement for holiness. While talking to a friend the other day, I took note in how someone she described, was described as devout in their religion, the term used was “very active in the church“. Interesting, for many being active in the church equates to being a christian, or equated to serving God which equals “I’m going to heaven”. Read more on How To: Get Active In Your Church…
