Tradition has a way of leading believers into doing things just because it was always done that way. Does the position of ones head matter when praying? Does the placing of our hands together and the closing of our eyes get the attention of God or is it the position of ones heart?
Prayer or the act of praying has many positions or postures, you can pray standing, sitting, laying down, kneeling and even with your eyes open. Get this, you can even pray while driving. You don’t have to close your eyes; hmmm…or do you? What if the situation doesn’t permit it? What if you can’t kneel because of a medical condition or your can’t bow your head due to your neck brace?
Yes, religion can actually be a hinderance to doing the most simple forms or worship. It matters not who is watching; are believers to put on a pious show? Is God pleased with the perceptions that many believers portray or is He pleased by the sincerity of His people? While many have claimed religion or salvation solely influenced by perception, their new found faith proved to be a temporary state.
The simple acts of a bowed head, a closing of your eyes and a folding of the hands may only mean you’ve been trained or cloned well by the church. Sure, the position of the head is thought to be a sign of respect and it looks good at the local family restaurant during dinner when your family has their heads down, hands folded and are saying grace. But once grace is done and your kids run wildly in the restaurant….now that’s a kodak moment.
Many believers are so fixated on how their church has taught them to pray, fast, worship, and believe , they are ineffective when it comes to encouraging another, winning another or sharing a personal experience of deliverance without using a cliche or a sound byte of a sermon once heard.

What a great feeling to be in the company of friends or in the fellowship of the believers and hear encouraging words. Believers will embrace each other, firm hand shakes are exchanged among the men and the women will express their joy at seeing another friend or member they haven’t seen in awhile.
