As President Obama toured the tornado ravaged are of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; He spoke the words “We’re going to make sure you’re not forgotten”. How comforting those words must have felt to the residents who heard them. The damage is seen as unimaginable to those looking at it. The destructive force of nature can be awesome and yet devastating at the same time.
From one tragedy to another; there was Hurricane Katrina, the recent earthquakes and tsunamis in Japan, the fires in Texas and many other tragedies that are soon forgotten when the next one hits. No one can explain or truly empathize with the loss of another because it affects each one differently. I guess there is something that those not affected by the fires, earthquakes, tsunamis and tornadoes can do…pray. We can make sure those affected “Are Not Forgotten”. This is not the time to watch the news and say…”wow..that’s sad” and then move on with your life.
Pray and or donate; there is always something we can do. Finding out what is appropriate, is the best place to start. You don’t want to simply pray for someone who is hungry, you have to feed them. You don’t want to pray for someone who is without shelter, they need a place to stay. Sometime when you don’t know what to do or how to go about doing it, prayer works to fill in that gap. While we remember those affected by the tornadoes, lets not forget those in Japan, Haiti, Texas, California, Hawaii and the other places that I’ve failed to mention. There were so many events that took place globally, that has affected everyone.
It is truly amazing how people and nations will forget their differences in the face of tragedy; I guess it makes us realize that all we truly have is each other.
