In the book of Mark, chapter 8, verse 23 we have the account of Jesus healing the blind man upon arriving at Bethsaida. What I find interesting is, when the people bought the blind man to Jesus and the people begged Jesus to touch him to heal him, Jesus leads the man outside the village and heals him.
Perhaps being around multitude of people can be a distraction in receiving what God has for you, think about it. Sometimes being immersed with the crowd of people, you can’t really focus on things; you can’t ever hear someone talking to you when surrounded by many people. I’m reminded about how in most worship services when someone approaches the altar for prayer, there’s this expectation of the people watching that seem to distract from the person ready to receive and the person ready to pray for the one at the altar. I get this understanding in the passage of scripture as Jesus leads the blind man out of the village, implying, away from the people who begged Jesus to touch and heal the man.
Imagine the anticipation of a people when they assemble and wait for a well know evangelist to show up for a healing service, the people will sit and wait and watch in anticipation for what the evangelist will do. Maybe what Jesus wanted to do was to move the attention from Himself (based on the peoples expectation and their perspective) and focus on the man needing the healing. The glory belongs to God and Jesus Christ always gave God the Father the glory and the credit. Sometimes giving God the credit is impossible when the spotlight is on you! Some people are merely entertained by what they see going on in church and what hear has no impact on their lives. Sunday after Sunday, people will show up for church just to see who’s wearing what, just to hear their favorite teacher of because the famous speaker is in town.
After Jesus laid His hands on the man the first time, He asked him, what do you see? The man stated I see men as trees, indicating that his vision was yet not clear. As believers we attend church services week after week and we are touched by the move of Gods Sprit throughout the service and we yet see each other as trees. We have more respect for the pastor in the pulpit and the church officials, but we can’t get along in the pews. Ministry is allowed to replace interaction with people on a level where the spiritual needs can be meet.
How do you see the men and women that God sends to your place of worship, do you see them as potential church members or people in need of a savior? You can clean up a fish before you catch it. How do you see the former church member that no longer attends? When you can see clearly you will be able to see the needs of the people, you see with clarity, you see that everyone is different with different needs and problem and sometimes you have to get away from the throngs of people.
How do you see?
