I can recall this mantra while I was a member of a local church. As I recall these words in my head, I can only wonder what happened! To what you may ask? The power and the influence the church use to have in our communities and in the lives of the members that attended the weekly services so “religiously”.
Are we to understand that if we pray much, that we shall have much power? Power over what? (I ask this of course to provoke you, the reader to thought) For those of us that prayed much, why is it that our marriages are in trouble? Why is it that our friendships and relationships are strained to the brink of separation? Was our praying in vain? Were our motives for praying more self centered? I believe the problem was not in any defects in the act of praying; so maybe the focus should be on the one praying. The economy is definitely in a mess and the thing that I hear so much of is how the Church is in so much trouble, many have to close their doors, pastors are struggling financially and mega churches (and your smaller local ones) have to deal with decline in giving. My questions is, are we still praying much? and if so what do we do with the much power that we say we receive from the much prayer?…or were these just words echoed in a display or oratory skill.
