Now, that is a question often wondered and seldom asked…”How Do You Live Holy?”Come on, are there really instructions that are labeled from one to 50 (more or less) on “How To Live Holy?” I realize the scripture does lay out some ground work on the things we should put off, but many church goers and religious folk believe there are things that you can do and must do in order to be Holy? I remember a Sunday School class I taught and I asked a question: “If Holiness is a lifestyle, what are or might be some of those things in that lifestyle, that we must do, in order to be Holy?” To my amazement those in the bible study began to name things (rituals) that one must do in order to be Holy. What things? Self righteous things such as, attend church, pray, only wear certain clothing and speak in a certain way. There was no mention of the scriptural requirement such as faith in Jesus Christ first and foremost, and no mention of Colossians 3
It has become so easy for many believers and church goers to get caught up in traditions and tales. Think about this: If all I have to do is wear certain clothes, walk and talk a certain way, attend church, prayer and Bible study to be Holy, anyone can imitate the average church goer and would appear to be Holy by that standard. Since the previous statements defines and Identifies the average church goer; the church goer looks and acts like the same people imitating holiness.
So, How Do You (We) Live Holy? Yes, there is a passage of scripture that says, “Be Ye therefore Holy for I am Holy” (1 Peter 1:16). But, when someone can quote to you a list of does and don’t s, your Holiness is nothing more than self righteousness. Holiness is reckoned to your account by your Faith In Jesus Christ. Yes, there are actions that follow and identify a Believer in Jesus Christ and you do not have card blanch to sin.
Look at Colossians, mainly chapter three. When you contrast Colossians to the many of believers that you know, you will see by how much they (we) fall short. For the most part many Christians lack the self control, actions and speech that should clearly set us apart from someone who does not have faith in Jesus Christ.
Imagine this, your local church teaches a class on how to live holy and the list goes something like this:
No smoking, no drink, no lie telling, no stealing, no cursing or swearing, no wandering eyes, attend church every time the doors are open, attend every bible study, attend all prayer meetings, give, tithe, witness, fast every, first Saturday and third Tuesday of every month, attend all district meetings month. I could go on, but I think you get the idea. The list would probably be different from church to church, some longer, some shorter. When people get involved in teaching you or telling you “How To Live Holy” is it by Scriptural standards or mans rules of dos and don’t s? The problem with doing things mans way is, man will never be satisfied and if you don’t do it like Brother or Sister Saved…your falling short.

Colossians 3 is the best place to start if you want to know How Do I live Holy and pay special attention to verse 15.
