From the Pulpit.
It is commonly said or talked about how an artist will paint, possibly from an experience or they will take something painful from the past and put it in their art; how about the hip hop artist and their song?
They sing from their experience and their pain felt through out their lives and they make millions. In Christendom we train preachers to preach, having nothing to draw from, some prepare sermons based on analogies and folklore which make a great attention gainer into their carefully prepared sermon.
Paul the apostle was beaten, stoned and went through rejection from his peers as well as his people and yet in his preaching he preached from what he experienced; preached from what he suffered while yet telling the story of Christ! Paul truly had a message to preach and a story to tell.
We praise the hip hop artist and call them experienced and talented because they truly have a song to sing yet in contrast I look at the preacher that was called from the hood, called from a failed marriage, called from his adulterous situation and we (the church goers) say he can’t lead me, he/she is unworthy to preach, preach from their pain! They truly have a story to tell because it is from their experience and pains they preach and therefore know of this deliverer (Jesus Christ) they speak so passionately about.
Much too often from the pulpit comes the experience of what the preached has traditionally endured, all the failed meetings, and the failed programs to raised offerings and increase attendance.
To the preacher that fell and got up, tell the story! To the preacher that was delivered from every shameful situation that church goers will reject you for, you need to tell the story! Preach from your heart and experience, you truly can speak about this man named Jesus that delivered you!
