In response to a Internet search using the phrase “Do I have to go to church on new years”, I want to post a simple reply. No!
To my knowledge, in the Christian Church, there is no requirement, for believer to attend a worship service on New Years. Church leadership may hold what is called a “Watch Night Service” on New Years Eve. Traditionally in most Baptist or Holiness churches, a worship service is held between the hours of 9 pm until 12:30 am to reflect on and thank God for His blessings through out the passing year and praise Him the New coming year. As the clock strikes midnight, the worship service erupts in the sound of church members shouting “PRAISE HIM” Or “God I thank You!” or the clapping of hands.
Some churches my question the sincerity of your faith, if you don’t attend, thereby causing a person to feel guilty for not being there. Worship is what you do daily, how you live you life behind close doors and in the presence of people not what you do in the four walls of a building called church; which is not The Church, but a place in which the believers gather.
