Churches, Tiger and I

A tiger

I’m almost sure you thought I was going to chime in on the news of the past week of a young man caught up in much controversy, shame and humiliation. Going Against The Grain writes thought provoking articles that causes believers to think about what we believe and why we believe it. In this article, I thought It would be a good thing to write about what I think about Tiger Woods and whats going on.

I think the world has enough problems and the church has even bigger problems in living right, so I have no room to comment on Tiger Woods and troubles.  In the church we say prayer changes thing, well right now this man, this soul, needs prayer. What’s been happening here with this man and his family is am all to familiar store of what going on in our churches today. Pastors are caught up, Ministers and Elders and Missionaries are caught up in the same problems as non-believers; its just that many haven’t been caught.

This article is not about exposing anyone but to cause us to think about this:  “…and such were some of you.” The Great Apostle Paul wrote these words to the Corinthian Church; the Church was caught up in adultery, drunkenness, homosexuality, stealing, lying, greed and that’s just the beginning. Therefore we, the church, the believers, should not point the finger at, talk about, turn our noses up at anything the world has done, is doing and will do that we find deplorable and un-godly, after all…and such were some of us!

And is seems that history repeats itself, in the case of the Corinthian Church (you should ready the the books of Corinthians) there are striking similarities to the church today.  When we see a brother overtaken in a fault, we no longer restore, we cast out and separate from them when scripture states they should be restored.

Weather we like it of not, For God SO loved Tiger, that He gave His only son that if Tiger believes in Him….. I think many believer will be shocked when they get to Heaven and see the person they hated, mistreated, counted out and rejected while in this life…hmmm or will they be there to see it.

Paul heard the Corinthian believers had divided into groups and were holding up various leaders as being superior to the others. There were those that followed Paul, who had founded the church. Others followed the eloquent Apollos (Acts 18:24). Some thought that Peter was the best, perhaps because he had been with Jesus.
