In part 1 of this post, I gave an introduction, exposing the fact that gimmicks are used in the church. For those whom are offended, continue to read. I make no apologies because this is my experience and it happens is churches everywhere. There are so many rituals in the average church worship service, things like: stand up, read this, sit down, stand again, go to three people and say this.
Programs are sponsored by churches to get people in the door, increase the Sunday School attendance and raise money for the new flat screens in the over flow room. There are a host of methods used to get people in the door and weather you like reading about it or not, when you appeal to what attracts people, your no doubt marketing and there is a gimmick to most if not all marketing strategies. When factual information is needed to make an understanding clear, why is it that many bible teachers will avoid the facts? You can’t understand a conversation by entering at the middle. This is what many teacher will do, teach a doctrine and expect people to believe it when they only teach half the story. Read more on The Plain Facts…

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
Light is what God is. God is also life. God is also love. These are not just attributes of God, but who He is. This may be difficult for us to understand but the Word of God says this is so. When God reveals Himself, its always in light, life, and love. When you experience God’s presence, its always uplifting, always edifying always full of light, it’s never the opposite. If your experience with God is not edifying, or uplifting, or is not full of light and comfort, then you haven’t experienced true fellowship with the Father. Mark E. Baker

Tradition has a way of leading believers into doing things just because it was always done that way. Does the position of ones head matter when praying? Does the placing of our hands together and the closing of our eyes get the attention of God or is it the position of ones heart?
Prayer or the act of praying has many positions or postures, you can pray standing, sitting, laying down, kneeling and even with your eyes open. Get this, you can even pray while driving. You don’t have to close your eyes; hmmm…or do you? What if the situation doesn’t permit it? What if you can’t kneel because of a medical condition or your can’t bow your head due to your neck brace?
Yes, religion can actually be a hinderance to doing the most simple forms or worship. It matters not who is watching; are believers to put on a pious show? Is God pleased with the perceptions that many believers portray or is He pleased by the sincerity of His people? While many have claimed religion or salvation solely influenced by perception, their new found faith proved to be a temporary state.
The simple acts of a bowed head, a closing of your eyes and a folding of the hands may only mean you’ve been trained or cloned well by the church. Sure, the position of the head is thought to be a sign of respect and it looks good at the local family restaurant during dinner when your family has their heads down, hands folded and are saying grace. But once grace is done and your kids run wildly in the restaurant….now that’s a kodak moment.
Many believers are so fixated on how their church has taught them to pray, fast, worship, and believe , they are ineffective when it comes to encouraging another, winning another or sharing a personal experience of deliverance without using a cliche or a sound byte of a sermon once heard.
