Hi, I’m Nathaniel Lewis and I write GoingAgainstTheGrain.org. My inspiration to write is to help Christians to see beyond the traditions and protocols in churches that discourage free thinking and dialog about doctrine and practices. Much of what is taught in the pulpits of many churches is a compromised message and is greatly sensationalized. I started GoingAgainstTheGrain.org in 2005 to allow readers (too intimidated to ask in church) to ask, explore and talk about why we do, what we do in the church.
In the beginning stages of GoingAgainstTheGrain.org, I was unsure about how readers would respond or accept what was written. I had to follow through with what I strongly believe in and that’s speaking up, asking questions and speaking out when things are blatantly misleading. So, here I am, Going Against The Grain, while others decided to follow the status quo, look the other way, remain silent and not rock the boat I decided to write, provoke readers to thought in saying what others dare not to say. Church members found the articles heart felt, inspiring, thought provoking and could relate to much of the written material.
I am a technology professional and entrepreneur, also I’ve served in the Church Of God in Christ for more that 10 years, I’ve taught Sunday school, Mens Classes and youth classes . I have a passion for research and explaining the what and the why of a matter, if i don’t know, i know how to find out and explain my findings. This has been proven to be intimidating to those in the church teaching tradition and not doctrine. Although i do not claim to be an authority, I know where to go to get answers.
Church members should not be intimidated or discouraged from asking questions. When leadership in the church are reluctant to give answers or evasive in teaching the whole of a matter, a red flag should be raised in the mine of the reader, I have raised many red flags. I truly hope you find the articles here, thought provoking, informative, inspiring and even a little humorous.

The expressions of I was thinking about you as many of the previous topics from this site allows me to know the truth of God is not based or biased of denomination, sect, or culture. I understand when people hurt me by actions or words, they don’t realize as being a family of the Kingdom of God they do an injustice to themselves by doing it the Lord. ” As you have done to the the least of these my brothern, you’ve done it unto me”. I thank this writer for his faithfulness to the Creator for courage, patience, and strength to continue as God allows him and us through his experiences to go and grow through these changes as we lend our minds and sometimes our body to inflict discomfort to the children of God through the devices of the evil one; in awareness or not. I humbly say I’m sorry and respectfully ask your forgiveness. I close with the heart felt words ‘thank you’ not in arrogance of this should happen. yet in honor of knowing this my brother’s spirit.
Praise Him!!!!!!! We often forget that, GOD is GOD all by himself. He doesn’t need us. We need him. Spirituality is a growing process. True FOLLOWERS of Christ aren’t suppose to have a House but a HOME, a HOME in our hearts. So when the Lord says move, we MOVE. We are to follow him not people. People have a tendency to try to IMPRESS each other and not the LORD. I Thank God for Him in you and you in Him. So many need to know the truth about , “Moving On”.
